換一種語(yǔ)言讀金庸（二）

余光中先生在臺灣大學(xué)講授翻譯課，所用教材是英國作家王爾德的劇本《不可兒戲》（The Importance of Being Earnest)。學(xué)過(guò)英國文學(xué)的人都知道，王爾德的語(yǔ)言，被稱(chēng)為witty language，風(fēng)趣幽默，妙語(yǔ)連珠，雙音雙關(guān)，層出不窮。以余光中先生的中英文造詣，也感到難以應對，用他自己的話(huà)說(shuō)，翻譯過(guò)程仿佛就是與王爾德拔河（《與王爾德拔河記》）。我相信，Anna Holmwood在翻譯《射雕英雄傳》時(shí)，也一定會(huì )與余光中先生一樣，感覺(jué)像是跟金庸較勁。
金庸語(yǔ)言生動(dòng)，刻畫(huà)能力極強，寫(xiě)景狀物，講述故事，如在眼前，如見(jiàn)其人。一個(gè)人物，一種性格，一種語(yǔ)言，絕對不會(huì )含糊不清。全真派丘處機文武雙全，他的話(huà)語(yǔ)文雅中透著(zhù)豪邁之氣。
第五回彎弓射雕中丘處機給江南七怪的信中這樣寫(xiě)道：江南一別，忽忽十有六載。七俠千金一諾，間關(guān)萬(wàn)里，云天高義，海內同欽..... 二載之后，江南花盛草長(cháng)之日，當與諸公置酒高會(huì )醉仙樓頭也。人生如露，大夢(mèng)一十八年，天下豪杰豈不笑我輩癡絕哉？
Anna Holmwood 譯文：It has been sixteen years now since we left the south and the moons have come and gone so quickly. The Seven Heroes are honorable fighters and people of their word, your righteousness and integrity are awe-inspiring...... In another two years, when the flowers are blooming and the grass of the south are swaying in the wind, we will meet and drink at the Garden of the Eight Drunken Immortals. Life passes like the dying morning dew and these sixteen years have been like a dream. Do the brave heroes of the Wulin laugh at our foolishness?
中文是典型的書(shū)信體裁，流暢典雅，一氣呵成，丘處機豪邁之氣，躍然紙上。Anna Holmwood的譯文忠實(shí)原意，直白暢曉，節奏明快，也不乏武林豪氣。
武俠小說(shuō)的背景是江湖。“江湖”兩個(gè)字，即便用漢語(yǔ)解釋?zhuān)膊皇且患菀椎氖虑椤，F在外國人逐漸理解和接受了“風(fēng)水”的直譯Feng Shui, wind and water，但是肯定理解不了river and lake。小說(shuō)中的江湖，是一個(gè)既現實(shí)又神秘的世界，江湖中的語(yǔ)言也就各不相同，那些“切口”、“黑話(huà)”，對翻譯來(lái)說(shuō)尤為困難。像“請教閣下的萬(wàn)兒”、“劃下道來(lái)”、“壞了招子”這些武林中人的語(yǔ)言，很難翻譯得神形兼備。
小說(shuō)第四回中梅超風(fēng)中了江南七怪的伏擊，雙目被柯鎮惡的毒菱所傷， 她扶住大樹(shù)，對陳玄風(fēng)叫道：“我一對招子讓他們毀了。賊漢子，這七個(gè)狗賊只要逃了一個(gè)，我跟你拼命。”
Anna Holmwood譯文: “They blinded me!” Cyclone Mei growled from where she was slumped against a tree. “Bastard Husband of mine, if you let even one of these scoundrels go, I will kill you myself.”
“毀了一對招子”譯成 “They blinded me”，忠實(shí)于原意，但畢竟缺少了江湖氣，不像是出自梅超風(fēng)之口。可是，如果不這么譯，又能如何呢？難不成還能把這句話(huà)譯成“They broke the windows to my soul”(他們毀了我心靈的小窗戶(hù)）？果真如此，就等于將黑風(fēng)雙煞譯成羅密歐與朱麗葉了，想想都要笑出聲來(lái)。 以我的學(xué)識，真的不知道英語(yǔ)中是否有與“招子”對應的黑話(huà)。
另外，“賊漢子”（Bastard Husband of mine）一詞也頗具中國特色。中國的女人，越是喜愛(ài)自己的男人，在稱(chēng)呼上下口越狠，什么“賊漢子”啦，“冤家”啦，甚至還有稱(chēng)自己的愛(ài)人“殺千刀的”！當然，這種稱(chēng)呼只限于自己的愛(ài)人，絕不能涉及別人的老公。如果一個(gè)中國女人告訴一個(gè)美國人：“That man who deserves a thousand knife stabs is my husband”, 那個(gè)美國人要么選擇報警，要么當場(chǎng)昏倒。黑風(fēng)雙煞是武林中邪派人物，就是這么任性地稱(chēng)呼；Anna Holmwood 是忠實(shí)的譯者，就是這么任性地翻譯，倒也相得益彰。
讀金庸是一種樂(lè )趣，換一種語(yǔ)言讀金庸是另外一種樂(lè )趣，只要我們懷著(zhù)欣賞和學(xué)習的心去讀，就會(huì )體會(huì )到樂(lè )趣，就會(huì )有所收獲。我很喜歡Anna Holmwood在譯本前言中的一句話(huà)：“So, dear readers, all that is left is to enter through these pages into a universe at once fantastical and based on real historical events, one both foreign and intimately familiar, a story full of heart and of remarkable physical prowess.” 說(shuō)得太好了。壯士豪情，英雄肝膽，江湖風(fēng)雨，歷史波瀾，武俠小說(shuō)中該有的，金庸都給了我們。
